Well...let's see... the definition of contest is an occasion on which a winner is selected from among two or more contestants.  So since Matt bailed out, which started the avalanche of participation then even though you get brownie points for showing up, you cannot claim victory since there was no contest....  :-)

Results of the September 27th glider contest:

1st place - Steve Franc   Smiley
2nd place - Steve Franc   Wink
3rd place - Steve Franc    Undecided
Last place - Steve Franc   Angry
Spot Landing winner - Steve Franc   Tongue
High Altitude - Steve Franc   Cool

Participants - Steve Franc    Roll Eyes

Field conditions - Moderate temperatures, mild winds out  of the East

Comment from the winner -  The competition was keen.  There were so many planes in the air at one time that they blocked the sun.  I attribute my success to watching the competition when in search of lift.   Huh

The constest was very well organized and ran like clockwork....  All participants seemed pleased with the outcome of the competition.  The winner says he will make good use from the proceeds of his 1st place cash  prize money......   Grin

Due to an emerging personal conflict, I won't be able to make it tomorrow.

Hope the weather is nice and there is some good flying for those who can.

I thought that there was noooooo life left in SPASM.  I'd love to get together for some friendly soaring.  This weekend I'll probably be in Greenville, SC working over the weekend.  But, lets get this SPASM thing going again.  It was fun.

As far as builds...I plan to strip out the Reichard Champion and put the parts in something simpler, cheaper, and lighter to get better performance.  The old purple Aspire is still a contender though.

I would love to be there but I have a 2 day event that entire weekend. it's nice to have the soaring event back on. The mass launch sounds loke fun though.

I'll do my best to make it...  Thus far Sunday the 27th seems to be clear....   Smiley  How about sending an email to the past, present, and  future SPASM members direct to see if there is more interest...  Not sure how many may still be checking this website due to the recent inactivity....

I think that the last weekend of September is the best for me.  How about a 4 PM event on Sunday?

Just to work out the bugs, we'll run a real simple event.

Mass launch, run the motor as much as you want, stay up as long as you can.  No landing points, don't even have to make it back to the field!

Points scored like this:

Points = Flight Time/Battery Amps

for example, stay up for 60 minutes with a 1000 mAh battery, you score: 60/1.0 = 60 (probably a pretty good score)

If you land and take off again, 5 minute penalty.  Bring a stopwatch so we can keep our own times.

Since I haven't been building I haven't looked since Doug's closed.  Maybe Bay Hobbies on 235 or Michaels.

Where are you all getting building supplies?  I need balsa and wish there was an easy way to get some.

Also, www.rcdude.com has some good motors and spinners at good prices. Let you know if I am happy with them in a bit.
